Spring brings about a number of tangible benefits to our lives. Chief among them, we say goodbye to winter, the snow and the colder temperatures. Another benefit of the warmer weather is the opening up of closets and the ability to wear the things that were shoved to the back of the closet mere months before. Spring is that time of year when we can wear things that are appropriate for the warmer and cooler months, trying our best to deal with the muck on the ground and the warm of the sun above.

While all of this sounds good there are a few things to keep in mind to best navigate the season, and that’s what we’re going to discuss today. There are a number of ways to look your best and manage the conditions and we’re going to go through a few of them and also consider how to maximize your savings. With that in mind, here are our men’s fashion tips for the spring of 2016.

Wearing Boots With a Suit:

This is a look we really enjoy and it has a very practical use. If you’re someone that walks around quite a bit but is required to look good for your job, boots and a suit perfectly gratify those needs. There are a lot of boots out there (Red Wings and Wolverines are some of our favourites) that look quite handsome with a suit and are able to take a stay attractive on the muddy spring streets.

We like the juxtaposition between something like a suit and work boots. There are also a number of boots on the market that do a really fine job in bridging the gap between work boots and dress shoes. You can find boots with brogueing in elevated colours and in quality leather. This often appear as dress shoes to the naked eye but the discerning types will realize what you have done and appreciate the effort.

Wearing boots with a suit is a great way to get around town stylishly and practically; something we’re always in search of.

Flannel Shirts:

While this one may sound a bit odd to some, listen to the logic first. Spring mornings can be brisk and no one likes to freeze on their way into the office. A flannel shirt will stop you from throwing on that extra layer and provide the insulation that is needed to keep you warm.

The ways flannel shirts are made now they have become an option year around given the various weights you can purchase one in. Winter obviously requires a heavier gauge flannel whereas spring and summer require something a little lighter. Not to mention their versatility with what they can be paired with. Flannels work with all sorts of outfits from suits, to denim, to chinos.

A flannel shirt is a spring staple due to its ability to keep you warm on those brisk morning as well as keep you looking stylish for any occasion.

Spring Overcoat:

A spring overcoat works really well at keeping you warm during brisk mornings and during the evenings when the temperature can dip significantly. Wearing something that bridges the gap between casual and formal is almost always the ideal route to go. Something mid-length and in a shade of tan is a fine option to wear with a suit or with jeans. The style of jacket will be suitable for your more formal affairs while the fabric (cotton, waxed cotton) lends a more casual air to the piece.

Having one coat to carry you through spring and summer is a great way to save a few dollars that could be better spent enjoying an adult beverage on a patio somewhere. Men don’t need a coat for every occasion; find something that works formally and casually and let it ride.

These are a few tips to help get through the sartorially trickier times. Even when fashion seems to be continuously changing, simple advice for tough times is always in style.
